Design Wall Monday - February 15th 2010
I currently have two things on my design wall. I went to a charity sew in on saturday and the rectangle blocks were what I was working on. I didn't get many made considering I was there for three hours but after being snowed in for two weekends I think I needed the "talking" time more than the sewing time. I think these blocks are going to make for a "busy" but cute quilt.
There are two things in quilting that I almost never do. One is applique and the other is paper piecing. In the current Quilt Magazine they had a simple looking paper piecing pattern. Only 5 pieces in each segment and all fairly large so I decided to try it.
This first block took me forever, guess paper piecing just takes lots of practice which I don't think I have the patience for. I finally did get two more blocks done (not pictured) so will make a table runner out of the three blocks. It makes a cute secondary design so I will post a picture of the finished table runner when I get it done.

The colors look great on your paper-pieced block. I was drawn to the same pattern, but I'll have to wait before I try it. Making it into a table runner sounds like a good idea.
It's so good to try new techniques, isn't it?
I made one of these quilts with some friends and love it so much I wish I didn't have to give it away! Love that block and it's great for using up scraps.
Paper piecing get easier and faster with each project.
Great block!
My first paper pieced block was a New York Beauty: made enough to complete a vest back. It was rough going at first but by the time I got to the 10th block, it was a breeze. Each time I start a new paper pieced project there is a short learning curve but then it is really easy and perfect points.
I like the block too. Paper piecing is very difficult for me. But I'm reading your other comments and I start thinking...I should try it again. Hmmm.
Great charity blocks. I don't think they are too busy.
I don't like paper piecing - don't have the patience for it I guess.
The rectangle quilt is on my to do list. I don't think it is too busy at all.
I saw that pattern in Quiltmaker as well. I'm sorely tempted...
