Design Wall Monday - September 6, 2010

I hope that everyone is having a great holiday and will fit some time into sew.

On thursday I went to an informal workshop making a quilt from Ricky Timms book on convergent quilts. We each bought a book and then a lady that had made a few of them kind of led us through the process and gave us tips. I finished my top yesterday by adding 3 simple borders to it. I am thinking that I still need to add some sort of applique to this.

This is not a techique I would have normally tried but I like the results. I am tempted to make one using Christmas colors but I have a few projects that I need to do before I even think about making another wall hanging.

My husband is going to make our daughter a tote bag for school since her back pack doesn't seem to be working out to well so my project for the day will be to quilt that fabric so he can start making the bag. If I have time later I would also like to get a couple more table runners quilted and get bindings on them as I am just about out of evening hand work.

I love those type of classes...so nice and informal...and your quilt top is wonderful..

Your hubby sews? wow..do you each have your own stash or do you share?

I took the convergence class a few years ago, and feel the same way-not my normal 'thing' but really liked it.
yours is great.love the borders

I think this would be out of my comfort zone. Applique will make a nice addition and your walls should be warmer once this project is done.

It's good to get outside your comfort zone, isn't it?

Very beautiful quilt...and I agree, it would look wonderful with some applique.

You know I tried making the convergence but mine just don't seem to work out. Yours is very nice.

Gosh I wish my DH sewed. Lucky girl.

Convergence Quilts were what got my sister hooked on quilting--she just is not a traditional girl! Yours is soft and pretty, I like it a lot.

Nice job Kathie. I've not taken one of his classes informal as yours was or not. I did attend one of his big shows in San Diego a few years back. He is an excellent musician. The show was hosted by Canyon Quilters and a real success. I do like your quilt project. What would you applique on it? Anything coming to mind? My DH knows how to sew, but I don't know if I'd trust him with my good scissors let alone my Pfaff or Janome :)!
