Ok, I bet you have never seen a water powered featherweight sewing machine. My daughter had to do a science fair project and needed help coming up with ideas. We were tossing a lot of them around and I think I was the one that came up with a water powered sewing machine. I was really joking but she liked the idea and this is what her and her dad put together with a water wheel on the side.
I don't know if you could actually sew with it but they did manage to get the needle to go up and down anyway.
