Memorial Day Project

The yahoo group Heart Strings that I am part of is encouraging everyone to do a red/white and blue project this weekend in honor of Memorial Day with the quilts to be donated to QOV, American Heros or other organizations that collect quilts for the wounded. I decided to join the group that is making some patriotic chinese coins units to later be made into quilt tops and have asked that others in my quilt guild contribute if they have the time and interest to do so.

I am doing these blocks to honor the troops currently in service both in the US and deployed that keep us safe. I also do these in honor of my dad that was a World War II vet. He has been gone for many years but on holidays like this I always think of him.

Almost Finished

I finished quilting the baby bunny rail fence last night and managed to get the binding on also so all that is left is to hand stitch it down. Here is a picture fresh off the frame.

This was not a UFO but was using up some of my stash. A couple months ago I made a quilt using the bunny fabric, I must have had it on my shelf for at least three years. Once the other quilt was done I still had some of the fabric left so instead of putting the remainder back in my stash for ANOTHER three years I decided to cut it into strips and use it up immediately so made this top.

Pebbles

I have been trying to do something a little bit new. I am currently working on a baby quilt and I am trying to put some flowers on it using pebbles as the center. This photo leaves a lot to be desired but you can get the idea anyway. I never realized how hard it was to do those little circles.

Lately

Well it seems like life has got in the way of my quilting lately (lol) with my daughters end of the year school and dance activities and feeling under the weather myself I have not accomplished as much as I wanted to over the last couple of weeks.

I did manage to get the 1) r/w/b charity quilt done and turned in at the May guild meeting, 2) finished the two tulip runners and delivered those, 3) start piecing a packing for another quilt and 4) quilted a graduation customer quilt.

I currently have a baby quilt partially loaded on the frame and hope to get that done in the next few days, followed by two customer quilts and I also want to make up some more quilting samples to show customers. It is so much nicer to be able to show an actual quilting sample as just a drawing or a photograph.

Weekend Goals

Like many people just about every weekend I have certain goals I want to accomplish including certain housework, errands and quilting projects. Rare that everything on my list gets done but I do seem to get a lot more accomplished when I have a plan.

In the next few days (weekend plus) I want to:
1. Get the latest r/w/b charity quilt loaded on the frame, quilted and ready to deliver to quilt guild monday night.
2. quilt the two tulip runners I have in process (customer order)
3. bind the tulip runners
4. piece a backing for another finished top

Will be interesting to see how much of this actually gets done.

Peacock Meandering

I used quilting called peacock meandering on this queen customer quilt I finished up friday night. I saw Linda Taylor do this recently when I was at MQX. Of course she did it very tiny but I like the way it looks when you do it large, kind of like a wonky feather. I have finished up my Triple Treat quilt top yesterday so I am on a roll so far for the month of May.
